Our shelves are still empty
of trophies to put on display
or little souvenirs to gather
dust; we have not accumulated
a lot of milestones or victories
or hurts, not yet. People always
ask us when this happened, or
started happening, and we give
each other a little smile before
telling them it hasn't really
been that long ago. But we will
fill up those shelves, slowly
and purposefully, and someday
we will stand back and look at
all the things we've done
together——good things and grand
things and simple and delicate
and daunting things——and say,
"We better make room
for so much more."
